Woman Lawyers Still Lag But More Are Making PartnerJune 4, 2010 – In The News
In a study conducted by the Project for Attorney Retention, the percentage of women lawyers promoted to partner increased from 28 percent last year to 34 percent this year. However, the director of Project for Attorney Retention said that despite these numbers the overall number of women partners remains low and no distinction was made in the survey between equity and nonequity partnerships.
Stephanie Resnick is the firm’s litigation chairman and recipient of this year’s Sandra Day O’Connor award given by the Philadelphia Bar annually to a local female lawyer of significant accomplishment.
“We have to keep the pressure on,” Resnick said. “Some partners are still not very sensitive to it. They don’t want to assign work to certain female lawyers working part time because they are afraid they will not put in the time. We’re on our way, but we’re not there yet.”
