Job Screening Agency Archiving all Facebook

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has given the thumbs up to Social Intelligence Corp, which keeps files of posts by Facebook users as part of a background-checking service for screening job applicants. Social Intelligence complies with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which regulates that info be kept on file for seven years.

The company insists it is not storing historical information to be used against applicants, but rather protecting companies from future liability cases. The company will only collect information on job applicants under criteria that is legally allowable in the hiring process, including racist remarks, explicit photos or illegal activity such as drug use. Social Intelligence will also offer a monitoring system that will allow employers to check in on the social media activity of its employees to make sure they abide by the company's social media policy.

Fox News calls on Scott L. Vernick to comment on this latest development, which can impact the privacy of job seekers even if they clean up their social media posts when seeking employment.
