The Legal Intelligencer
August 23, 2011
Fox Rothschild recently acquired the three-attorney IP boutique Chan Law Group and established a new office in downtown Los Angeles. Name partner Thomas Chan joins the firm with more than 30 years experience as a lawyer and mediator, representing clients in complex litigation, business transactions and mediation, particularly involving intellectual property, technology, entertainment and trade with China. Chan brings with him counsel Lisa Karczewski as an associate.
Since 2005, Fox has acquired close to 10 boutiques. Firm managing partner Mark Silow said there is "less risk in doing a smaller deal than a larger or mega-deal."
Within the last five years, Los Angeles has become the firm's fastest growing office and it has strong entertainment and intellectual property practices, Silow said. Silow was impressed with Chan Law's concentration of Chinese corporate clients investing in the United States and hopes the addition will help build work with Asian clients.
