Synnestvedt & Lechner LLP Joins Fox Rothschild LLP
Combination with Oldest Intellectual Property Firm in Philadelphia Area Makes Fox Rothschild an IP Powerhouse
August 25, 2008
Fox Rothschild LLP has combined with the 111-year-old intellectual property law firm Synnestvedt & Lechner LLP. The combination adds eight patent attorneys and two patent agents to Fox Rothschild’s Intellectual Property Department, bringing the firm’s total strength in the intellectual property area to 40 attorneys, many with Ph.Ds and other advanced scientific degrees.
"Synnestvedt is the oldest, continuously existing intellectual property law firm in the area, and one of the oldest in the country,” said Mark L. Silow, Fox Rothschild’s administrative partner and chief operating officer. “They bring exceptional experience not only in patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, but also in intellectual property litigation.”
“Synnestvedt & Lechner’s practice is particularly strong in the chemical and electrical areas of patent work,” said Gerard P. Norton, Ph.D., chair of Fox Rothschild’s Intellectual Property Department. “This is a good complement to the existing Fox Rothschild practice, which is especially strong in the life-science fields of biotechnology, pharma, and medical devices.”
Attorneys Joseph F. Posillico, Gary Hecht, and Richard Woodbridge will become partners, while attorneys Alexis Barron, Charles Lindrooth, and Tara Rachinsky, Ph.D., will join the firm’s Intellectual Property Department as special counsel. Jimmie Johnson and Perry Fonseca will join as associates, and Roy Rosser, Ph.D., and Robert Henrie II, Ph.D., will join as patent agents. In addition, four experienced intellectual property paralegals, one docket clerk, and six assistants will join the firm. The group will practice for a time out of Synnestvedt’s current offices at 1101 Market Street in Philadelphia and 112 Nassau Street in Princeton, but will eventually work out of Fox Rothschild’s Philadelphia and Princeton offices. Fox Rothschild and Synnestvedt are also discussing the possibility of several other attorneys from Synnestvedt joining the firm.
“Once we decided to pursue merger opportunities, Fox Rothschild quickly rose to the top as a perfect choice for us,” said Joseph Posillico, Synnestvedt’s managing partner. “Fox has a strong tradition of client service that fits well with our culture, and the combination of our group with Fox’s existing group creates a true IP powerhouse. The quality and depth of service that we can provide now will be second to none in the national intellectual property arena.”
“I have known Joe Posillico since he started practicing law over 20 years ago,” said Abraham C. Reich, Fox Rothschild’s co-chair. “I have always been impressed with his lawyering and today he is one of the outstanding intellectual property lawyers in the region. Fox Rothschild and its clients are truly fortunate to have him and the entire Synnestvedt & Lechner group on board.”
The combination continues a pattern of unprecedented growth for Fox Rothschild. In addition to Synnestvedt & Lechner LLP, the firm’s recent additions include labor and employment partners Keith I. Chrestionson, Jeffrey D. Polsky and Alexander Hernaez, who joined the firm’s San Francisco office from Kauff McClain & McGuire LLP, entertainment partners Martin D. Fern and Jeffrey S. Kravitz, who joined Fox Rothschild’s Los Angeles office from Silver & Freedman, and litigation partner Michael L. Eidel, who joined the firm’s Bucks County office from DLA Piper.
