Drafting and reviewing premarital agreements can often be a “risky business.” The following tips will help prepare someone for a successful premarital agreement and will potentially prevent divorce ligation.
When explaining a premarital agreement with clients it is important to remember that they may not know what they are looking for. Attorneys should start by explaining to the client the reason a premarital agreement is important or risky, including for financial issues.
For a successful agreement, get as much financial background information as possible and fully understands what they are signing. Once each party is on the same page, an agreement can effectively be made.
