Adoption of the Atlantic County Wastewater Management Plan

March 2011Alerts Zoning & Land Use Practice Alert

The Atlantic County Wastewater Management Plan is in the process of adoption. This is an important plan because it will determine the location of sewer service areas. If your property is located outside a sewer service area, you will be unable to obtain sanitary sewer in connection with any development project. The preliminary working draft map can be viewed at http://www.aclink.org/GIS/mainpages/static_display.asp?gis_var=ssa.

As a preliminary matter, if you own real property in Atlantic County, you should check to determine what the property’s classification is under the draft map and whether it is currently in a sewer service area, to be taken out of a sewer service area or to be added to a sewer service area.

A public meeting regarding the proposed plan changes is scheduled for March 23, 2011, from 4 to 8:00 p.m. at the Anthony Canale Training Center, 5033 English Creek Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ. The Department of Environmental Protection and the county will accept comments up until April 23, 2011. In the event you own property that is either not in the proposed sewer service area or is being removed from a sewer service area, this is your opportunity to comment.
