As a reminder to all District of Columbia employers, effective today, July 1, 2014, the minimum wage in the District has increased to $9.50 per hour. In addition, as we previously noted in January , the minimum wage in California also increases effective today. However, the tipped minimum wage in the District remains at $2.77 per hour. Because of this change, in order to remain vigilant in complying with applicable wage and hour laws, employers must ensure that their payrolls reflect this minimum wage increase. In addition, it would be prudent for District employers to contact their payroll companies to ensure that they are aware of the increase to the minimum wage.
