David Jaffe recently published his article, “It's the (newest) economy, stupid: Will the emerging credit crunch derail growth in the venture capital market?” in the April 15, 2008, edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

In his article, Jaffe discusses Pittsburgh’s growing reputation as a venture capital hot-spot, but warns that economic thunderclouds are threatening to “eradicate much of the progress made in [the] region, to say nothing of rest of the nation.”

Recent economic issues may have a “ripple effect” on venture capital, says Jaffe, “leading to a drastic reduction in the availability of the risk capital essential for emerging growth companies.” Jaffe goes on to discuss scenarios of impending venture capital contraction.
