Momagers vs. Managers: Primer on Getting Your Child into Show Biz

We’ve all seen or heard about those dreadful parents who — having failed to make their own dreams of being a star come true — push their kids to, and sometimes beyond, their limits in order to get a vicarious taste of life in the spotlight.

We’ve seen the story replayed so often (most recently in shows like “Dance Moms” and “Toddlers and Tiaras”) that we may not realize that the vast majority of parents of talented kids are more likely to find themselves trapped in an emotional tug-of-war between wanting to protect their kids and wanting to help them to be the next darling of stage, screen, radio, or YouTube.
