The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently launched three useful applications, or apps, to assist with “problematic” workplace issues. By creating these apps, the DOL has made it easier for employees and employers to understand their rights and responsibilities. For two of these the DOL Wage and Hour Division has capitalized on the popularity and utility of smartphones by developing apps that are available to download for free on iPhone or Android devices. Additionally, the DOL has created a web-based tool for employers to address common issues that arise under the Occupational Safety and Health Act as administered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). All three of these apps, if used appropriately, should prove to be useful in the workplace.
