In a recent jury verdict from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, two Chinese pharmaceutical companies were ordered to pay $162.3 million to several U.S. plaintiffs for antitrust violations. The penalty was the largest ever against any Chinese corporations anywhere and it was the first time that a Chinese government official testified before a U.S. jury. The case also marked the first time the Chinese government offered its interpretation of related Chinese law in a U.S. court.
