A prominent litigator and former federal prosecutor and Independent Counsel for the Whitewater investigation, Bob is a respected courtroom veteran who aggressively advocates his clients’ interests in white-collar criminal defense matters, corporate governance and compliance issues, internal investigations and general litigation, including civil RICO and commercial fraud.

Before Fox Rothschild
Prior to joining Fox, Bob was a partner at Pryor Cashman LLP. He also formerly served as a partner in several major AmLaw firms.
Bob joined the Independent Counsel’s office in Washington, DC in 1995, where he supervised, conducted and participated in complex, long-term and multidefendant federal prosecutions involving public corruption at all levels and stages in federal court.
In October 1999, Bob succeeded Kenneth Starr as Independent Counsel and was responsible for the In re Madison Guaranty investigations, which concluded with published final reports on matters involving FBI files, the White House Travel Office, Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky.
From 1989 through 1995, Bob was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. He also served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Frank X. Altimari in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
While attending Washington and Lee University School of Law, Bob was a member of the Washington and Lee Law Review and was chosen as the best oralist at the John W. Davis Moot Court Competition. He was also runner-up for best brief and was a quarter finalist in the William and Mary Moot Court Competition. From 2004-2007 Bob served on the Washington and Lee alumni advisory body as a member of the Law Council. Beginning in 2013 for a three year term, Bob will serve on the advisory council for the History Department at Princeton University.

Bob is frequently called upon by the press to provide his insights on relevant criminal and other matters in the news. In connection with his service as Independent Counsel and its aftermath, he has appeared as a commentator or in a related capacity on Sunday talk and other political programs on the major television and cable networks, including ABC Good Morning America, Bill O’Reilly Factor, CBS Early Show, CNN Late Edition/Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Fox Sunday News, Hannity & Colmes, Jon Stewart Show, NBC Nightly News, Nightline with Ted Koppel, PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer, This Week with George Stephanopoulos and Tim Russert hosting Meet the Press. Bob is also an op-ed contributor to The New York Times.
Beginning in 2012 for a four-year term, Bob serves on the advisory council for the History Department at Princeton University.
Bob was a candidate for the 2002 Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in the state of New Jersey.
