What Attorneys Wish They Knew When They Graduated

Catherine Barbieri was quoted in the Law360 article, “What Attorneys Wish They Knew When They Graduated.” Full text can be found in the June 26, 2015, issue, but a synopsis is below.

When asked what advice she would give to recent law school grads, Cathy Barbieri said, “As a management-side employment litigator, I have a deep understanding of what motivates people. When I was at Penn Law in the 1990s, the debate following the release of Professor Lani Guinier’s article entitled 'Becoming Gentlemen' centered on whether the success of (some) male law students was attributable to their math and science backgrounds, whereas (some) female students were hampered by their liberal arts degrees. I now know, and wish I had known then, that nothing could have prepared me better for practice than my appreciation of the human condition that came from studying the liberal arts and reading literature.”
