Ellis also has significant experience advising and representing clients regarding privacy and data security issues, including responding to and dealing with cybersecurity breaches.

Ellis was an associate at Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP, which merged with Fox Rothschild in 2018.
While in law school, he served as article & notes editor of the North Carolina Banking Institute Journal and as treasurer of the Carolina Health Law Organization. In college, Ellis was a starting defensive lineman on the football team.
