An EPA official announced September 6 that the final EPA guidance on vapor intrusion is expected to expand on current practices used in assessing and mitigation chemical migration by addressing new mitigation methods, petroleum hydrocarbons and institutional controls, while in other areas it will generally reflect current practices.

During a webinar on the topic, it was proposed that technologies that could solve the need for more frequent sampling of vapor intrusion should be addressed in the EPA’s final guidance.

Chris Roe said the final vapor intrusion guidance will be a “good thing” and that even within the same EPA regions, decisions about what sampling is sufficient is still a “moving target.”
