Chris Roe, Adam Cutler and Karen Davis were quoted in the Daily Environment Report article "Draft Vapor Intrusion Guidance Thorough But in Places Too Conservative, Parties Say." While the full text can be found in the June 26, 2013, issue of Daily Environment Report, a synopsis is noted below.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s draft guidance on vapor intrusion, the migration of volatile chemicals from contaminated soil or water into buildings, is thorough and has made progress, but according to multiple parties is too conservative.
“Overall, the revised guidance does a thorough job of incorporating many of the technical nuances, developments, and lessons learned from the last 10 years of investigations,” Chris Roe, Adam Cutler and Karen Davis said.
In addition, it “appears to take a significant step toward establishing a comprehensive and consistent approach to vapor intrusion investigations,” the group said. “However, the overly conservative approach throughout the guidance will exacerbate existing challenges for vapor intrusion investigations and burden property owners, communities, and responsible parties with vapor intrusion studies that may not be warranted and may cause unnecessary alarm.”
