An Ounce of Prevention: Data Privacy Compliance Update for the Pharmaceutical Industry
Somerest Hotel and Conference Center
200 Atrium Drive
Somerset, NJ 08873
Data-driven research is changing the pharmaceutical industry, boosting research efficiency, optimizing clinical trials and creating new avenues to address patient’s unique needs. This influx of data, whether collected from consumers, patients, clinical trial participants or employees comes with a plethora of new risks and a growing web of state, federal and international regulations.
Participants will learn how to protect sensitive data against hackers, phishing campaigns, ransomware and other cyber threats. The panel will discuss specific data privacy and security requirements related to health information, including HIPAA compliance, handling information obtained in research, and the use of “de-identified” data purchased for research purposes, as well as Federal Trade Commission requirements related to privacy/security assertions. Presenters will outline the growing number of U.S. states passing data privacy laws — including the California Consumer Privacy Act — and how they affect consumer and employee data collection. The session will also cover segregating and protecting sensitive employee data to avoid discrimination claims, as well as configuring websites to avoid disability claims by users.
