Employment Law Issues for Entrepreneurs
Noon - 1:30 p.m.
You may call them contractors, consultants or freelancers, but the government is mounting an aggressive campaign to call them "misclassified.” In an effort to reduce the cost of benefits and payroll taxes - many start-up ventures misclassify employees as independent contractors. The Department of Labor, state agencies and private plaintiffs are increasingly challenging the designation of workers as independent contractors. As an entrepreneur, you need to know how to protect yourself.
Elizabeth Sigety of Fox Rothschild will discuss two important Employment Law Issues for Entrepreneurs:
- The Use of Independent Contractors
- How to Protect Your Confidential Information
In addition, the seminar discusses the use of confidentiality and non-compete agreements as a way to protect your important business assets. The seminar will also explore the enforceability of such agreements, when they are appropriate and when they are not.
