Sandra Fava and Raquel Sefton Recognized by the National Law Journal as Family Law Trailblazers

April 3, 2019 – Press Releases

Fox Rothschild LLP congratulates Sandra C. Fava and Raquel L. Sefton, who were named to The National Law Journal’s inaugural list of Family Law Trailblazers.

The renowned distinction spotlights attorneys who are paving the way with innovative and effective guidance in family law and who have “managed to help navigate their clients through what may be one of the most difficult times in their lives.”

Fava, a partner in the firm’s Morristown office, is a certified mediator who has dedicated her legal career to the thoughtful and diligent representation of clients in divorce and family law matters. An essential ingredient in Fava’s practice is applying her own business acumen and negotiation skills to couples who are considering marriage, separation or divorce.

“In my first summer clerkship, I helped a partner with a pro bono domestic violence matter. I realized right away that I was making a big impact on people’s lives,” said Fava. “My theory is, you should be in a healthy, happy relationship. And if you’re not, I can help you.”

She earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and her B.A. from Rutgers University.

A partner in the firm’s San Francisco office, Sefton is a Certified Family Law Specialist by the California State Bar’s Board of Specialization. For more than two decades, she has handled complex family law matters and counseled clients through transitions from beginning to end. Sefton is known for her ability to guide clients through high-asset dissolutions involving questions of complex valuation, income determination and asset division.

Sefton was the Founder and Managing Partner of Apex Family Law, which merged with Fox Rothschild in 2018.

“We were able to grow a practice that would interest a national law firm. Then we moved to Fox Rothschild, one of the few firms with a nationwide family law practice,” said Sefton. “Our team now has resources outside family law, and the opportunity to collaborate with other practices such as trusts and estates, tax, real estate and litigation.”

Sefton graduated with her J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School and her B.S., magna cum laude, from the University of California.

Fox’s national Family Law practice consists of more than 30 attorneys who negotiate, mediate and litigate high-stakes divorce cases concerning marital assets, spousal support, child support, relocation and grandparent visitation. The group handles complicated valuation issues, particularly for high-profile and high-net-worth individuals and their spouses.
