Four Fox IP Attorneys Named Leaders in IAM Patent 1000July 25, 2018 – Press Releases
For the third consecutive year, attorneys in Fox Rothschild’s Intellectual Property Department are featured in the “IAM Patent 1000,” an annual ranking by Intellectual Asset Management magazine that identifies the top patent practitioners in key jurisdictions around the globe.
The IAM Patent 1000 guide is compiled through extensive research and interviews with attorneys and in-house counsel around the world.
Fox’s Intellectual Property Department, comprised of more than 120 professionals nationwide, includes more than a dozen who hold doctoral degrees in the sciences and engineering, as well as former U.S. Patent and Trademark Office examiners, former university and industry researchers and former in-house attorneys and corporate engineers.
Fox IP Department Chair James M. Singer (Pittsburgh) is highlighted in the guide as a “lightning rod for praise” who brings “incredible value” when acquiring patents domestically and abroad.
Also featured in the guide are D. William Kaufman (Minneapolis), Gerard P. Norton, Ph.D. (Princeton) and Deborah A. Somerville (New York).
Kaufman has closed more than 280 venture capital transactions throughout his career and is noted in the guide for having “unbeatable experience” in such matters.
Norton is distinguished for his “deep expertise in patent law, pragmatism and business savvy” and his ability to “litigate[s] across the IP spectrum” be “at ease with the most complex biotechnology inventions, [where] he leads a large team of attorneys.”
Somerville is noted for exhibiting an “impressive range” with knowledge to offer companies across the biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device fields and showing “dexterity and tact in disputes.”
The Fox IP team handles the complete range of patent law matters, including domestic and foreign patent prosecution, corporate due diligence, counseling and opinions regarding patent invalidity and noninfringement. In 2017 alone, the team of more than 50 registered patent attorneys and agents secured nearly 900 patents worldwide, including more than 450 in the United States.
