Reluctantly, Township Seeks Rezoning to Settle Affordable Housing Suit

Egg Harbor residents and township officials are concerned about a recently introduced ordinance that would change the township’s zoning code. The ordinance is a result of a 2006 court ruling rendered after English Creek Manor filed a builder’s remedy lawsuit against the township with the intention of developing the land and providing affordable housing, according to Jack Plackter.

“They were trying to develop the property over a 10-year period and this arose out of the difficulties they had,” Plackter said. “It was just that at the time, there were a number of roadblocks to trying to get development approvals to the property.”
