LGBTQ Family Law Services
Members of the LGBTQ community deal with many of the same issues traditional families face when it comes to navigating the family courts, but they also encounter a variety of unique challenges that require an experienced advocate with a deep understanding of their needs.
Jennifer has decades of experience representing LGBTQ clients in matters that include:
- Dissolution of domestic partnerships and other relationships
- Premarital agreements
- Cohabitation agreements
She has prevailed for her New Jersey clients in significant cases on issues involving the rights of gay and lesbian stepparents and the ability of transgendered youth to obtain treatment and to change their legal names to match their identified gender.
The recent legalization of gay marriage and rapidly evolving case law has unquestionably improved LGBTQ couples’ access to the family court system, but it has also introduced a host of new questions for judges.
For example, how should the time a gay or lesbian couple spent together before gaining the ability to marry be accounted for in a divorce proceeding?
While LGBTQ youth have become gradually more accepted, they and their families still face an added layer of complexity in custody and adoption proceedings that requires an attorney who is familiar with the sensitive issues that can arise.
Jennifer tackles both those issues, and many others unique to LGBTQ family law, on a regular basis in her practice, making her both an experienced advocate and a staunch ally for her clients.
