The Essex County Superior Court, New Jersey’s largest and busiest trial court, has suffered from a lack of judges for years. Governor Chris Christie recently nominated eight judges to fill some of the gaps.

These eight nominations, which are assumed to be for the Essex County Superior court, were part of 14 total judicial nominations.

The immediate former president of the Essex County Bar Association and Fox Rothschild partner, Kenneth Rosenberg, said that the trial court has had a complement of 57 full-time judges, but that this number has not been reached for years.

“As such, we are extremely hopeful that the state Senate will quickly confirm the governor’s judicial nominations as Essex County’s court system has been working short-staffed far too long,” stated Rosenberg. “As new judicial vacancies are inevitable due to retirements and the possibility that judges on loan may be returned to their home counties, it is important that the 8 nominated judges be confirmed expeditiously.”
