Fox Rothschild has established a formal entertainment department after spending the past several years adding lawyers on both coasts. The practice group is headed by Los Angeles-based attorney Darrel D. Miller.

Philadelphia-based partner Lori Landew said that Fox began to grow the practice after acquiring another firm with a small presence in Los Angeles. Landew focused her practice primarily on the music industry, but she has since branched out into representing book publishers, film production companies, sports teams and universities.

Los Angeles office managing partner Jeffrey Kravitz handles intellectual property-related issues for entertainment clients. Litigator Lawrence Hinkle II handles business disputes. And the team most recently added dealmaker Jody Simon, whose clients include the producers of “Dancing With the Stars” and “Project Runway.”

“It’s certainly more challenging to have an entertainment practice in Philadelphia,” Landew said. “The proximity to New York actually makes it harder because clients will often look for the New York Lawyers. But Philadelphia has an advantage in that it can offer lower rates.”
