Why Nicki Minaj Is the Only Lady on the Cash Kings List

September 24, 2013 – In The News

Lori Landew was quoted in the Forbes article “Why Nicki Minaj Is the Only Lady on the Cash Kings List.” While the full text can be found in the September 24, 2013 issue of Forbes, a synopsis is noted below.

Ranking at number four, Nicki Minaj is the only woman on this year’s list of Hip-Hop Cash Kings. She has been the sole female to rank on the list since it was created in 2007.

“Nicki’s just got it,” says Landew. “Part of the reason she’s so authentic is because she’s so chameleon-like, which could come across as cartoonish and not attractive to a brand, but it works for her.”

The nature of the hip-hop world has contributed to Minaj’s placement on the Cash Kings List. In a male-dominated industry, female rappers tend to be more focused on their careers and establishing themselves rather than mentoring upcoming artists.

“It seems there’s only one female rapper that gets anointed at a time,” said Landew. “I think it’s just more difficult for women in rap to break through the mainstream and to cross over into the male market.”
