Alka Bahal, partner and co-chair of the Corporate Immigration Practice Group at Fox Rothschild LLP, has been named by New Jersey Law Journal as among the top lawyers in the state under the age of 40 in this year’s edition of “40 Under 40.”
Each year, the New Jersey Law Journal recognizes lawyers in private practice in New Jersey whose achievements in the workplace and in public service involvement distinguish them among their peers. These 40 lawyers have been judged by the Law Journal’s editorial staff, based on a range of criteria, as the best, brightest and most likely to lead the profession in the early 21st Century.
Bahal has extensive experience in corporate immigration and employer compliance issues, including IRCA, I-9s, Social Security mismatch issues and business visas (Bs, Es, Fs, Hs, Js, Ls, Os, Ps and Qs, plus corresponding permanent residence applications). Bahal has represented a wide variety of clients, from Fortune 500 clients to small, privately held corporations to health care and nonprofit organizations across the country. She has developed a niche in representing fashion houses of all sizes around the world and has become well-known for her attention and creative solutions to employers' hiring needs. Fluent in Spanish and Hindi, Bahal has filed more than 7,000 petitions relating to the employment of non-immigrants and the acquisition of permanent residence.
Bahal is a noted speaker and author on corporate immigration topics, regularly hosts seminars on immigration compliance and strategic planning and has authored numerous published articles on IRCA and I-9 matters as well as visa-related topics.
Bahal has served as chair of the Immigration Committee of the Essex County Bar Association since 2007. She is also a member of the New Jersey and New York chapters of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and a member of the South Asian Bar Association, American Bar Association and New Jersey State Bar Association.
Among her community activities, Bahal participates as part of the Essex County Bar Association in the Backpack and School Supply Drive for underprivileged children. In 2008, she has headed a team that supplied more backpacks and school supplies than any other single entity in New Jersey. She also engages in fund-raising and charitable work with the Hindu Temple of WI.
Bahal received her J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1995 and her B.A. from Marquette University in 1992.
