Firms Looking To Cost-Effective Locales For Growth

Despite the challenging economic climate, many small and mid-sized law firms are looking to grow by opening outposts in smaller U.S. cities, which can offer strategic advantages without the big-city financial risk, experts said Wednesday.

Within the past month, about a dozen firms — including Fox Rothschild LLP, Adams and Reese LLP and Peck Shaffer & Williams LLP — have opened new offices in mid-sized cities in North Carolina, Florida, Colorado, Maryland, Ohio, Georgia and elsewhere.

By breaking into these smaller markets, according to industry experts, firms gain the opportunity to serve new and existing clients without taking on the huge risks associated with setting up shop in already overcrowded locales like New York and Washington, D.C.
