February 23, 2012 – Press Releases

As part of its sustained commitment to promote and foster firm-wide diversity and inclusiveness, Fox Rothschild LLP recently hosted its second annual diversity retreat, uniting attorneys from many backgrounds throughout the firm’s national network of 16 offices. Don H. Liu, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Xerox Corporation and a member of the board of directors of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, was the keynote speaker at the event.

The day-long retreat, held on Feb. 17 at The Hub City View, provided more than 40 firm attorneys with the opportunity to share common experiences, network with firm leaders and forge connections for the future.

Throughout the day, attorneys participated in interactive group sessions led by both Werten Bellamy of Stakeholders Inc. as well as firm attorneys. A panel comprised of Firm Co-Chairman Phillip Griffin and partners Alka Bahal, Darrell D. Miller and Stephanie Resnick discussed the topic of rainmaking. Other members of firm leadership, including Firmwide Managing Partner Mark L. Silow and Firm Co-Chairman Abraham C. Reich, highlighted Fox’s successes in incorporating diversity throughout all levels of the firm.

Gregory B. Williams and Marilou Watson, co-chairs of the firm’s Diversity Committee, spearheaded the retreat.

“This year’s retreat was intended to build upon the momentum and collegiality fostered at last year’s inaugural event,” said Williams. “We were especially honored to have Don Liu as our featured speaker. Don has been among the leaders in the diversity debate within the legal community for many years, and his insight into overcoming the cultural differences that can hinder an attorney’s ability to generate new business from clients provided a renewed perspective on the continued challenges ahead for us.”

“The recent recession resulted in challenging times not only for law firms but for the wider business community in general,” said Watson. “As the economic recovery continues, it’s important for the legal profession to once again bring diversity to the forefront of the conversation. Here at Fox, these retreats provide us with an opportunity to gather and address our concerns and challenges as well as map out a plan for future success both within the firm and in the broader communities in which we live and practice.”

As a leader in the legal and business community, Fox Rothschild is proud of and committed to ensuring diversity and opportunity throughout all levels of the firm. The firm’s Diversity Committee aims to develop strategies to enhance the recruitment, retention and growth of attorneys and professional staff of diverse backgrounds. Fox Rothschild is dedicated to increasing the representation and retention of minorities in the Philadelphia legal community, as evident in the firm’s activity in minority organizations such as the African American Male Conference, Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the USA, Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Delaware State Bar Association Minority Judges and Lawyers Section, Philadelphia Diversity Law Group and the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The firm is also actively involved in pipeline initiatives, including the NALP StreetLaw program and the mentorship program/speaker series recently established by Watson at Promise Academy at Martin Luther King High School in Philadelphia.
