Studies show that walking 10,000 steps a day can drastically improve the health of a person. Those who count these steps with pedometers are able to set lasting goals and maintain motivation.

GlobalFit, a program that has provided step trackers and an online monitoring program to Fox Rothschild and other companies, has kept users motivated through fitness goals and rewards. Carole Lang, a legal assistant in the firm's Stamford Office, says although monthly drawings for rewards and daily challenges are enticing, she is now walking to compete with herself.
