The Philadelphia Bar Association has sued the city of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Board of Ethics over the city's new ethics ordinance.

This is the first lawsuit ever filed by the Philadelphia Bar Association. Chancellor Rudolph Garcia said the new ordinance, which may require disclosure by lawyers that would violate the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct, "intrudes upon the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's exclusive authority to regulate the practice of law."

Abraham Reich asked during a Board of Governors meeting if a position has been articulated for the ordinance to apply to lawyers or if it was the result of "sloppy drafting."

Garcia said the Board of Ethics has indicated that the ordinance applies to lawyers.
