Marc H. Simon Lauded by Variety as a Top New York DealmakerSeptember 27, 2018 – Press Releases
Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to announce that Variety has named Marc H. Simon to its prestigious 2018 “Dealmakers Elite New York” list, a testament to his successful representation of producers and artists in groundbreaking film, television and digital projects.
This annual feature spotlights the top East Coast legal professionals behind some of the entertainment industry’s biggest deals. Simon, a partner in the firm’s Entertainment Law Department, serves a diverse clientele and is established as a major player in the independent film, television and digital space.
This year, Simon played a pivotal role in a number of deals and negotiations across the documentary, episodic, narrative and talent landscapes, including Academy Award®-winner Joe Pesci’s deal to play a leading role in Martin Scorsese’s Netflix tentpole “The Irishman,” and the sale of “Songwriter,” a documentary about Ed Sheeran, to Apple Music.
In an interview with Variety, Simon discussed how selling a documentary feature film used to mean producing it, and then hitting the festival circuit “with fingers crossed” to seek distribution deals. Now, with streaming services at the forefront of project investment, “the deal making possibilities are starting earlier” he said.
At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Simon provided representation to nine films and/or filmmakers, including “The Sentence,” produced by Park Pictures and winner of the Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary, the directors and producers of “We the Animals,” winner of the Next Innovator Award, and the filmmaking team of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” which has now grossed over $22 million, making it the highest grossing documentary of 2018.
In addition to his distinguished legal career, Marc has directed, produced and/or executive produced numerous films, including “After Innocence,” “Nursery University,” “Unraveled,” “The Eagle Huntress,” “Walking Out” and “Little Boxes.” He has leveraged this experience to spearhead creative deal-making opportunities and ensure his clients’ success.
Fox’s nationwide Entertainment Law Practice works with celebrated and respected artists, writers, producers and executives including Grammy®, Emmy®, Golden Globe® and Academy Award®-winning stars, as well as music and licensing businesses in television, film and music. The firm’s attorneys are recognized as leaders making Hollywood deals and closing corporate transactions that continue to change the way business is done in the digital age.
