New York's most popular restaurants, according to the Zagat guide, will be reviewed to determine if they are complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Preet Bahara, the U.S. attorney for Manhattan said his office will inspect New York City restaurants voted "most popular" in the 2011 Zagat guide.

Restaurant attorney Carolyn Richmond said that many eateries in the city are located in landmarked buildings that make it impossible or very difficult to comply with ADA requirements.

"City landmark status may prevent a ramp from being installed, for example," said Richmond. "It's very odd to think that the Department of Justice would use something like the Zagat guide as their sampling tool."
