Variety Lauds Fox Entertainment Law Leaders in 2020 Legal Impact Report

July 24, 2020 – Press Releases

Fox Rothschild LLP congratulates Entertainment & Sports Law Department Founding Chair Darrell D. Miller and Chair Marc H. Simon, who are featured once again in Variety’s 2020 Legal Impact Report.

This annual report spotlights top professionals in entertainment, including the leading entertainment attorneys whose recent deals and litigation have changed the landscape of the industry.

Miller, who is included in the report for the seventh consecutive year, has helped his diverse book of industry-leading clients — including A-listers such as Angela Bassett, Courtney B. Vance, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Reginald Hudlin, as well as rising stars Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Teyona Parris, identify and capitalize on opportunities to elevate and diversify their careers. Miller secured significant deals for clients with major studios such as Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox, networks including HBO and Fox and streaming services such as Hulu, Disney+ and Netflix.

“For me, success has come in embracing technology, new players in the marketplace, and the idea that brand is greater than an individual talent,” Miller said in an interview with Variety. He is known for helping his clients leverage each project to lead seamlessly to even greater opportunities, and 2019 reinforced that reputation as he forged lucrative, career-defining deals for clients in producing, directing, writing and acting across film, television and digital streaming platforms. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University and his B.F.A. from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Featured for the second consecutive year, Simon has advanced his role as a major player in the independent film, digital and podcast spaces and has established himself as an innovator known for extensive knowledge across multiple, distinct business segments. His recent work includes deals for a broad list of top-tier clients that includes Alec Baldwin's El Dorado Pictures, former White House photographer Pete Souza, Academy Award-winning actor Joe Pesci, Swedish film production powerhouse B-Reel, former Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima, Brian Knappenberger's Luminant Films and New York Times Bestselling Author Emily Spivack.

Simon remains committed to nurturing independent filmmaking, evidenced by his representation of a long list of companies, artists and projects at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, including writer, producer and director Lofty Nathan; Park Pictures and Producer Sam Bisbee; and Producer Stacey Reiss.

“Five to 10 years ago, I had to almost justify proclivity for unscripted content,” Simon told Variety. “Now, the unscripted world is far more lucrative.”

In addition to his distinguished legal career, Simon has directed, produced and/or executive produced numerous films, including “After Innocence,” “Unraveled,” “The Eagle Huntress” and “Walking Out.” He leverages that experience to forge inventive, lucrative deals for his clients, and to ensure their success. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
