Business Forum: President’s Executive Action Only Goes So Far To Fix Immigration

President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration have sparked a firestorm from detractors and jubilation from supporters. Known as “Immigration Accountability Executive Action” (IAEA), it addresses some decades-old problems with our immigration system, which supporters and detractors alike describe as “broken.”

IAEA is not an act of Congress and can only go so far to fix a broken system. Ultimately, Congress is responsible for passing federal laws. The Immigration and Nationality Act principally is administered by the Department of Homeland Security. Agencies fashion regulations that implement the law in force, as will the policy of the administration.
