Disruptive Behavior Jeopardizes Staff Privileges and Hospital AccreditationNovember 1, 2010 – Articles Bulletin (Allegheny County Medical Society)
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has declared a zero-tolerance policy on threatening, intimidating or otherwise disruptive behavior. Accordingly, hospitals will need to get tough on offenders or risk losing their JCAHO accreditation. Physicians can expect closer review of conduct that may have been tolerated in the past. That said, hospitals that inconsistently apply the tougher policies for questionable purposes or economic reasons are likely to be subject to litigation.
