Zoning Code Update:
Philadelphia in the process of rewriting its zoning code. The Zoning Code Commission was appointed to undertake this task. Over the past year, the Commission has been reviewing the current zoning code and considering input from the public as to how the zoning code can be improved. At its meeting on September 9, 2009, the Commission received draft recommendations from its consultant team for the new zoning code. The draft recommendations can be reviewed at www.zoningmatters.org. The Commission has scheduled a public hearing for October 7, 2009, at 6 p.m. in City Council’s Chambers to receive comments on the draft recommendations. If you are interested in commenting on the draft recommendations but are unable to attend the public hearing, you may submit your comments through a survey at www.zoningmatters.org.

Parking in the City:
One issue being reviewed by the Zoning Code Commission is the parking requirements for new projects within the city. The Building Industry Association of Philadelphia is working with the city to understand the key parking issues in the neighborhoods you live and work. You can submit your comments regarding the current parking conditions in the city at www.fixitphilly.org

Changes to the Zoning Board of Adjustment:
Council Members Clarke, O’Neill and Kelly have introduced Bill 090591, which proposes to revise the composition of the Zoning Board of Adjustment by designating the Commissioner of Licenses and Inspections as an alternate member of the board who may replace an absent or disqualified board member. This is would help alleviate the delay in certain zoning cases that are postponed due to the failure of the board to have a quorum.
