Bloomberg Law Reports - Health Law

Shahnam Sharareh commented on the Bloomberg Law Reports' Health Law Question of the Month: "As described in Executive Order 13588, will President Obama's approach to reducing prescription drug shortages, particularly his focus on advance notice of manufacturing discontinuances and expedited regulatory review by the FDA, effectively address what the President called 'a serious and growing threat to public health'?"

Shahnam responded, "The signing of Executive Order 13588 is a step in the right direction; however, multiple factors contribute to the national drug shortage problem. A comprehensive approach should advance a framework with built-in incentives to empower the health institutions and their respective state health agencies to proactively identify and forecast the needs and, at the same time, entice the drug manufacturers in addressing these needs.
