Biography
Dr. Iva Dincheva is a seasoned patent attorney whose Ph.D in Pharmacology provides her with a strong technical foundation in the life sciences. Iva brings over a decade of research experience, enabling her to navigate complex technologies across molecular biology, immunology, oncology and neuroscience with depth and precision. Her deep experience gives her a unique vantage point for evaluating scientific innovation and translating it into meaningful intellectual property protection.
Iva advises a diverse client base — including emerging and established biopharma companies, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations — on developing intellectual property strategies that drive commercial value. Her practice encompasses drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications, conducting due diligence assessments and preparing freedom-to-operate analyses. She also performs competitive landscape evaluations, noninfringement and invalidity analyses, and supports investors during financing events and M&A transactions by assessing the strength and breadth of patent portfolios.
During her doctoral and postdoctoral research, Iva contributed to multiple therapeutic and research tool inventions, particularly in neuronal circuit regulation of anxiety, learning and memory. This scientific background directly informs her approach to building global patent portfolios. Her work covers a wide array of life science innovations, including antibody and protein therapeutics, nucleic acid–based medicines, cell therapies, immuno-oncology platforms, vaccines and diagnostics. Her ability to synthesize scientific, legal and strategic considerations ensures that clients receive comprehensive and future‑focused patent protection.
Iva is passionate about partnering with inventors and research teams to transform emerging scientific discoveries into valuable IP assets. These assets advance both commercial objectives and scientific progress. Her practice is supported by a multidisciplinary team of attorneys with experience in corporate law and public offerings, ensuring comprehensive support for her clients’ innovation journeys.
Before Fox Rothschild
Iva joined us from an international law firm where she started as a patent agent. There, she drafted and prosecuted a large number of patent applications for biopharmaceutical companies and universities. While honing her skills in patent prosecution, she earned her law degree at Fordham Law School and became an Intellectual Property law associate. Before entering law, Iva earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Weill Cornell Medicine and was a postdoctoral research scientist at Columbia University Medical Center. Her research focused on understanding neuronal networks of the brain, their molecular regulation and behavioral outcomes.

Iva is an active member of several professional organizations, including the New York Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. As part of the Weill Cornell Graduate School Alumni, she supports the development and growth of the life science industry.
