Fox Rothschild Partner Patrick M. Kane received an Amicus Service Award by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) for his “exemplary work to protect and advance local government interests.”

He was honored for his work with the IMLA Legal Advocacy program in Guerra v. Aleman, which involves a Fourth Amendment excessive force claim against a police officer. The case revolves around whether Officer David Guerra's use of deadly force against Ruben Galindo Chavez in 2017 was justified, and whether Guerra was entitled to qualified immunity. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the district court erred in granting qualified immunity to Guerra, vacating the summary judgment and remanding the case.

Kane is an experienced trial attorney and Certified Appellate Specialist whose practice includes high-stakes commercial litigation, municipal litigation and appellate law.

Kane previously received an Amicus Service Award in 2023 as part of a Fox Rothschild team that was led by Heidi K. Wilbur and included Kip Nelson. The trio was honored for preparing an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of IMLA in Conner v. Cleveland County. He also received the award in 2021 for his contribution to an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of IMLA and a number of other local government advocacy groups in Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski.
