Fox Rothschild LLP congratulates Maureen L. Mitchell, who was named a 2021 Energy & Environmental Trailblazer by The National Law Journal.

This distinction honors “agents of change…who have made significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancement of their practice.”

A partner in the Environmental and Litigation Practice Groups at Fox, Mitchell possesses substantial regulatory and courtroom experience. She has litigated cases involving hazardous releases and environmental threats under federal, state and tribal laws, and remains at the forefront of emerging issues in the space.

Mitchell has represented clients in litigation involving site cleanups, groundwater contamination and waste disposal. She is also deeply familiar with cutting-edge issues involving sustainability, climate change and carbon markets. Her notable representations include a major chemical company in a complex Superfund cleanup and waste disposal case through multiple appeals; defense of the former owners of several waterfront sites in the Pacific Northwest against National Resource Damage and remedial action cost claims; and advising a nonprofit on the generation and sale of carbon sequestration credits.

As Co-Chair of Fox’s American Indian Law Practice, Mitchell has also handled complex jurisdictional and regulatory matters involving contaminated sites located on an Indian reservation.

Mitchell serves as Co-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Environmental Litigation and Toxic Torts Committee and is a thought leader in the industry who regularly presents on topics involving environmental and American Indian law. She earned her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law and B.A. from Smith College.
