Fox Rothschild attorneys Elizabeth Brooks Scherer and Matthew Nis Leerberg, both North Carolina Board Certified Specialists in Appellate Practice, have announced the third release of their legal treatise, North Carolina Appellate Practice and Procedure.

The updated edition, published by LexisNexis®, reflects critical developments in North Carolina appellate law through 2024, including amended procedures and definitions governing the printed record and Rule 9(d) record supplements, amendments to filing and service rules prompted by the trial courts’ transition to the Odyssey electronic filing system, and numerous updates to appellate samples and forms. The treatise is available in print and e-book format and on Lexis Advance.

Scherer has devoted more than 20 years of legal practice to guiding clients through federal and state appeals, while also advising countless attorneys across the State on matters involving appellate practice and procedures. She previously led the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Rules Committee and the North Carolina State Bar’s Appellate Practice Specialization Committee.

Leerberg, Co-Chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, leads a national team that serves clients before the U.S. Supreme Court, every federal circuit court and the state appellate courts.
