Fox Rothschild congratulates Darrell D. Miller and Marc H. Simon, who were named to Variety’s 2024 Legal Impact Report recognizing entertainment lawyers who are “well-equipped to make award-winning wins for their clients.”

Miller is the Founding Chair of Fox’s Entertainment & Sports Law Department and Managing Partner of the firm’s Los Angeles Office. Variety notes his work negotiating Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s Oscar-winning role in Alexander Payne’s acclaimed film “The Holdovers” and his representation of long-time client Angela Bassett, who received an honorary Academy Award earlier this year.

Miller is also touted for negotiating stand-up comedian Taylor Tomlinson’s deal to host “@fter Midnight,” CBS’ new late-night franchise, as well as two Netflix comedy specials.

In an interview with Variety, Miller says he expects there to be a lot of change in Hollywood, including legacy media to shrink, digital media to grow, AI to take off and an increase in labor friction. “Once again, we’re at a massive paradigm shift in our industry,” he said.

Simon, Chair of the firm’s Entertainment & Sports Law Department, is recognized for his work on both indie and major-studio transactions. Variety cites his representation of Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the first female director of a “Star Wars” film, as well as counseling Bloomberg Media on how to adapt its intellectual property to different media platforms. He also organized Joe Pesci’s pay-or-play deal for the Peacock series “Bupkis,” which has been noted in the press for the payment obligation that applies notwithstanding the show’s cancellation.

He is also noted for his work with the Obama Family Office/Higher Ground Productions, Oscar-winning producer of “Summer of Soul” Joseph Patel, Park Pictures and Josh Sapan’s Sapan Studio.

Simon spoke with Variety about how buyers seeking content for Hollywood adaptations are becoming more receptive to short-form sources. “Now when they say IP is king, size doesn’t necessarily matter,” he said.

Miller has been on the list for 10 years and Simon has been on the list for five years.
