FAQ

Q

How do I apply for a summer associate position?

Answer:

We encourage all students to apply directly online via the careers for students page of our website. Applications for the 2027 summer program (Class of 2028) are now open through Monday, April 6 at 11:59 pm ET. We require all candidates to submit an application, resume, cover letter, law school transcript and writing sample.

Q

How long is the summer program?

Answer:

Typically, our summer program is 10 weeks, however the precise length of the program is evaluated each year.

Q

Are summer associates assigned to a specific practice area?

Answer:

We believe it’s important for you to be exposed to a variety of assignments in the areas represented in your office. We don’t have a formal rotation among practice areas and our summer associates aren’t typically assigned to specific practice areas.

Q

How does the assignment system work?

Answer:

Your supervising attorney will review assignments submitted by attorneys across your office and the Firm to ensure an interesting and balanced workload.  Assignments and evaluations will be managed though an online database.

Q

How often do summer associates receive feedback and evaluations?

Answer:

Feedback is provided on every assignment you complete. You’ll be assigned a supervising attorney who will review your written work product and meet with you weekly. Our evaluation process includes a mid- and end-of-summer review. Each attorney who submits an assignment is required to fill out an evaluation when the assignment is completed. The evaluation form requests feedback on research and analytical ability, writing skills, communication and presentation, timeliness and efficiency, ability to work independently, confidence level and overall work quality. We want to hear from you too. We believe feedback runs both ways. Your evaluation of the program will help the firm ensure that future our summer associates receive the most enriching and compelling experience possible!

Q

Are there pro bono opportunities for summer associates?

Answer:

Yes. You’ll have an opportunity to participate in the firm’s pro bono programs and assignments during our summer program. We have a history of giving back to the community by providing free legal services to those in need. We encourage all our attorneys to make pro bono work a priority. This participation benefits the greater community and gives our associates meaningful responsibility and early client contact.

Q

Will the firm reimburse travel expenses for out-of-town students?

Answer:

Yes. If your callback interview requires travel, we’ll reimburse you for reasonable travel expenses per the NALP guidelines. Any other travel expenses must be approved by the Recruitment Department. You can find a link to the NALP Travel Expense Reimbursement Form here.
