Biography
Hilary advises developers, builders and other property owners on a variety of legal matters, including entity formation, business planning and taxation. She is particularly experienced with Section 1031 and other tax-free exchanges.
Hilary often handles complex real estate deals for individuals involved in multiple-investor developments, negotiating terms, drafting purchase and sale agreements, and closing transactions. In the process, Hilary facilitates complicated like-kind exchanges whenever her clients and their partners have divergent interests or tax positions. She is skilled at crafting sophisticated transactions that let some investors cash-out their original investment while allowing others to reinvest in new properties. In the process, she helps them all avoid negative tax consequences.
Hilary also provides clients with sophisticated estate planning advice. She prepares estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney and medical directives and handles gift tax planning. She also assists with estate administration, helping trustees and executors understand their fiduciary duties and navigate often-complicated intestacy laws.
