Biography

Jamal provides strategic legal advice on corporate and finance matters to the leaders of startups and emerging companies, often serving as outside general counsel to entrepreneurs and companies on corporate governance and a broad range of transactions.

He provides advice to cannabis businesses on complex state and federal regulations in multiple jurisdictions, including for one of the country's largest cannabis companies. Jamal advises cannabis businesses looking to expand their products, services and retail footprint. His corporate experience, particularly with handling mergers and acquisitions, is an asset for cannabis businesses seeking guidance on commercial transactions.

Before Fox Rothschild

A former summer associate, Jamal joined us full-time after earning his law degree.

During law school, he externed with the St. Joseph County (IN) Circuit Court. Jamal also advised student-led startups on how to minimize risk, validate and grow their businesses as a Student Startup Coach. Selected for Notre Dame IDEA Center’s Responsible Innovation Fellowship, Jamal received training and firsthand experience in the ethical and social impacts of new technologies. He was also part of the winning team of a 1L Transactional Law Competition, Symposium Editor for Volume 5 of the Notre Dame Journal on Emerging Technologies, Student Representative on the Notre Dame Faculty Board on Athletics, Vice President of the Sports, Communication and Entertainment Law Forum, and Chair of Professional Development and Alumni Relations for the Notre Dame Black Law Students Association. Jamal received multiple awards, including the Dwight King Community Service Award for his service to the Notre Dame Black Law Students Association and 2023-2024 Notre Dame IDEA Center Startup Coach of the Year.

Before entering the legal profession, Jamal worked for several years for a Los Angeles organization that helps students and young adults end the cycle of homelessness and was selected for the highly competitive California Senate Fellowship, gaining experiences in public policy formation and adoption in the California Legislature through full-time work as a professional legislative staff member.
