Biography

Jay has more than two decades of experience helping businesses and individuals navigate federal, state and local tax issues.

He advises clients on the state and local tax implications of their business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, and counsels them on multistate sales and use, property, corporate and individual income tax matters.

Jay also provides counsel on tax controversies, due diligence and compliance matters. He represents clients in respect to tax audits, appeals, negotiations and litigation, and advises on tax credits and incentives, nexus studies, amnesty and voluntary disclosure negotiations, and legislation.

Keeping his clients' business and personal goals front-of-mind, Jay tracks changes in federal, state and local tax law and develops strategies to help his clients reduce their exposure through effective planning, defending against assessments and pursuing refunds.

Before Fox Rothschild

Jay joined us from a Pacific Northwest law firm. He's a former Senior Tax Policy Adviser in the Washington State Department of Revenue's Interpretations & Technical Advice Division/Property Tax Division.

He has previously practiced at an international law firm and a boutique estate planning firm, as well as working in-house for a CPA firm.

Beyond Fox Rothschild

Jay has worked with Thurston County Volunteer Legal Services and WSBA Wills for Heroes. He also has supported emerging lawyers by volunteering with the YMCA Youth & Government State Mock Trial, the ABA Law Student Division's National Appellate Advocacy Competition and the ABA Tax Section's Law Student Tax Challenge.
