Congratulations to our partner, Kathy Kimmel, who was recognized in the 2024 Power List: Business Litigation by Minnesota Lawyer for the third consecutive year.

The annual guide highlights attorneys “whose mere presence on a case signifies the stakes, who have influenced the direction of the law, whose leadership in the community is pervasive and whose respect within the bar is undeniable.”

In discussing how she became a successful litigator, Kimmel notes that “attorneys should be curious about facts, the law and the art of advocacy and should stay curious throughout their careers.”

It is also critically important that attorneys invest in their professional development including through interactive CLEs, participating in bar associations and other professional organizations, such as the Inns of Court. “Through my engagement in professional activities, I have learned invaluable lessons and insightful tips from judges and attorneys whose practice areas differ from mine. It is well worth the time commitment,” she said.

A zealous advocate for her clients, Kimmel notes that another way to “gain experience and judgment, while providing necessary legal representation, is through pro bono work.” For many years, Kimmel has engaged in pro bono work through the Tubman Center, a shelter for those struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health and other forms of trauma. She advocates pro bono representation as an invaluable experience for all lawyers that helps them learn how to incorporate perspective and judgment into their cases as they interact with other lawyers and judges.

Noted in the 2024 Chambers USA guide for Minnesota Litigation: General Commercial, Kimmel helps clients protect and preserve their interests in complex commercial, business, health care, fiduciary and trust and estate controversies.
