Biography

Maya focuses her practice on intellectual property law, with a concentration in trademark counseling, prosecution, enforcement, brand protection and portfolio management.

She advises clients on all aspects of the trademark lifecycle, including registration and protection for domestic and international filings through the Madrid system.

Maya regularly counsels clients on trademark availability and risk, domestic and international filing strategies, prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and the development and maintenance of trademark portfolios. She also assists U.S. companies seeking protection abroad and international companies seeking to establish and protect their brands in the United States.

Her practice also includes trademark enforcement and infringement matters, including cease-and-desist strategies, coexistence and settlement agreements, online and social media infringement, and Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings. Maya has experience with opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, as well as federal trademark and copyright litigation.

Maya works with businesses ranging from emerging companies and entrepreneurs to established national and international brands across a variety of industries.

In addition to her trademark practice, Maya counsels clients on copyright protection and IP-related agreements including licensing, nondisclosure and other commercial agreements involving intellectual property rights.

Before Fox Rothschild

Before joining us, Maya practiced as an intellectual property associate at a full-service law firm in Washington, DC. Earlier in her career, Maya served as a law clerk at a family law firm in Lansing, MI, and as a paralegal at a consumer bankruptcy firm in Atlanta. Before entering the legal profession, she worked in the Georgia General Assembly as a legislative aide to a state representative.

While in law school, Maya served on the Law Review and was active in the Black Law Students Association and Sports & Entertainment Law Society.
