Kathy Kimmel, Phil Martin and Tim Scallen Named to Minnesota Lawyer’s Inaugural Minnesota Legal 250 List

Fox Rothschild congratulates Kathy S. Kimmel, Phillip Martin and Timothy J. Scallen, who were named to Minnesota Lawyer’s Minnesota Legal 250 list, which recognizes highly influential and effective attorneys in their areas of practice.

The inaugural list “celebrates the power brokers who lead and influence various parts of the Minnesota legal community.”

Kimmel, recognized in the Business Litigation category, is a partner in Fox Rothschild’s Litigation Department. She helps clients protect and preserve their interests in complex business, healthcare, and fiduciary and trust and estates controversies and represents majority and minority owners, officers and directors in intracompany conflicts, and helps businesses safeguard their trade secrets and proprietary information. Kimmel also represents professional and individual trustees, estate administrators and beneficiaries in probate courts and civil litigation, and counsels employers on noncompete and employment agreement matters. She is frequently sought as a CLE instructor and has co-written chapters in several Minnesota Deskbooks and other resources on Minnesota law. She is also a certified Rule 114 neutral and has served on special litigation committees. Kimmel participates in the Tubman Safety Project, which provides pro bono legal representation to low-income victims of domestic violence seeking protection orders.

Martin, recognized in the Mergers & Acquisitions Attorneys category, is a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department and Chair of its Private Equity & Investment Management Practice Group. He represents a wide variety of clients in acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures and advises public clients corporate governance matters. He previously served as general counsel for Fiserv Health, which was among the nation’s largest independent processors of health claims. A licensed CPA, Martin applies his accounting background to complex financial transactions. His practice also encompasses corporate governance matters, and fintech and digital assets. Martin previously served on the board of directors of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School — Twin Cities for six years.

Scallen, selected for the Mergers & Acquisitions Attorneys category, is a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department and Co-Chair of its Mergers & Acquisitions Group. He advises large, publicly held and private companies in domestic and international acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. Scallen is a former general counsel for Wayzata Investment Partners LLC. His notable representative matters include serving as lead outside counsel for The Toro Company in its $700 million acquisition of Ditch Witch and its $227 million acquisition of the BOSS professional snow and ice management business, and representing IMI plc, a London Stock Exchange company, in the $1.1 billion sale of its beverage dispense and merchandising divisions to The Marmon Group, a Berkshire Hathaway company. Scallen previously served as the chair of the board of directors of Visitation School.
