Biography

Paul focuses his practice on complex intellectual property litigation involving patents, trade secrets and trademarks in U.S. District Courts across the country.

He has a background in biomedical engineering and experience handling patent disputes involving a range of products and technologies including pharmaceuticals, mechanical devices and life sciences. 

He also provides legal advice to clients on due diligence issues including freedom to operate and patentability, pre-litigation investigations, trademarks, copyright and trade secrets matters.

Representative Matters*

  • Defended developer of fire-stopping devices in patent litigation in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. The litigation consisted of three simultaneous cases involving defense against a total of 15 patents asserted by the plaintiff relating to multiple accused products and embodying products, as well as assertion of two patents on behalf of the client. The cases settled favorably.
  • Defended designer of cryo-holders for transmission electron microscopes in trade secret misappropriation litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. After a ruling on summary judgment that 16 of 19 alleged trade secrets were not entitled to trade secret protection, a favorable settlement was secured.
  • Defended global aquaculture company in patent infringement suit, resulting in favorable settlement.
  • Represented pharmaceutical company asserting infringement of patents covering an overactive bladder product.
  • Conducted IP due diligence for an ingredients solutions company in connection with its acquisition of a stevia sweetener producer.

Before Fox Rothschild

Prior to joining Fox, Paul was an associate in the New York office of an international law firm. Before that, he was an associate at a national law firm. He also worked as a research assistant in a biomedical engineering lab while a student at Washington University in St. Louis.
